Medieval Weapons:

Although most knights preferred a sword, many other medieval weapons were also utilized. The mace was a simple advancement over a war club and often had spikes or knobs that would allow greater penetration of armor. Axes were used in battle but their primary function was to slice off the hooves of charging horses.
