Edward III Sword
The Edward III Sword is hand forged from high-carbon steel. Though the style is typically of a 14th century sword, the fittings are undoubtedly that of a king. This sword features heavy gilding, an adder-skin grip and a beautifully enameled coat of arms. This well-balanced sword can be used as a single handed or a hand-and-a-half.
HISTORY
Edward III took the throne of England in 1327. War occupied the largest part of his reign and in 1333 he defeated David II of Scotland and drove him into exile. The first phase of the Hundred Years' war soon followed. England raged war against France for years, until both sides began suffering casualties from the Black Death. Hostilities temporarily ceased, but soon flared up again. In 1355 English invaded France and Edward, the Black Prince, the eldest son of Edward III, trounced the French cavalry and captured the French King John. In 1359, the Black Prince encircled Paris with his army and the defeated French negotiated for peace. |
