Rob Roy Targe
This Rob Roy Targe is beautifully hand crafted and features tooled leather that is stretched over wood and then finished with a goatskin backing. Like the originals, this Scottish Targe is approximately 20 in diameter, has brass accents and a center spike.
HISTORY
The Targe was a Scottish shield that was used by the highlanders as a defense against both arrows and hand-to-hand weapons. The Rob Roy Targe dates back to the 17th century and was used by the Clan MacGregor. The most famous of this clan was Rob Roy. Once a wealthy cattleman, Rob Roy was accused by the Duke of Montrose of stealing money and the MacGregor clan was evicted from their lands. Rob Roy declared war against the Duke and began stealing money from wealthy nobles and gave it to the poor. |
